Retirement Planning

Long before retirement even hits our radars, we’re planning what type of education, skills training and professional designations we’ll acquire. We also spend a lot of time planning which industries are the best place to work in, and which employers to work for. Once employed, we carefully...

Estate Planning

Volatility continued over the last week as the S&P continued to retest July 12th’s all-time high of 3,013.77. We won’t talk about Trump and the trade deals as we’ve already beat that horse into the ground (as have the pundits), and we believe the market has fully priced that in, but expect short-term volatility to continue. So who will be tricked and treated going forward?
This week the news headlines have been focused on the Impeachment Inquiry launched by the Democrats against President Donald Trump. What started off as a firestorm of contradicting reports in the news media, headlines quickly focused on two things as the story developed: 1) a demand for the release of a transcript of phone call between President Donald Trump and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky; and 2) a Whistleblower Complaint with regard to said phone call. How does this impact markets and you?

It has been an interesting last few weeks in markets. Oil went on a run after Iran attacked Saudi Arabia, the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates again and was called “hawkish” by financial pundits for whatever reason, and the ECB cut interest rates by 10bps to -0.5%, meaning banks are now paying the Government to hold excess reserves. Phew, that was a long run-on sentence! Oh, and as always, people are still scared of the US-China tariffs. But how does this impact you? Or does it impact you?

FAQ

Q

What is your relationship minimum?

While we find we add the most value for those with $500,000 in investable assets or more, we may still be able to help you. No one relationship is the same as the next, and please do not let our minimum discourage you. Do feel free to contact us for a free consultation so we can both decide if we're a mutual match.

Q

How will my portfolio be invested?

We strongly believe you can’t beat a benchmark if you’re hugging it. That’s why we give you our one best idea. We don't pad the portfolio with a bunch of securities to give the illusion of diversification, typically only pursuing compelling investing opportunities in companies with the strongest of fundamentals whose stocks we believe are underpriced. Each portfolio is relatively focused, with only 25 to 40 holdings being the norm.

This way, we can throw the full weight of our conviction behind each security that we purchase and closely monitor the investment.

Q

Do I have enough to retire?

This is one of the greatest questions and typically the most important question our clients ask us, and unfortunately it's not a straight forward answer. There is no magic "number" as you might see in major advertisements. Our calculators can help you. They're a great conversation starter. Let's talk about it together. We aren’t going to sell you anything, either. What do you say?
